Miracles on the road

On Sunday the 31 we set out with 5 guys from our team to a city called peja which is located on the border of montenegro to meet with a kosovar guy from brownwood who just happened to be in the country when we were. As we got on the bus I met a teacher named aziz (name changed), aziz was an educated man who could speak 5 languages and spoke, as he said, both American English and British english. So after a couple of minutes of small talk I began talking to him about Jesus. As we talked he informed me that although he was a Muslim he had hardly ever read the Koran, in fact he added “we are not Muslim by our own choice here in Kosovo, it is only because the turkish empire conquered us many years ago and brought Islam that we call ourself Muslim.  ”So” I asked, “do you think Islam has been good or bad for Kosovo?
“good suppose” aziz replied, “however I have never really cared to be a Muslim, in fact this name aziz is just what my parents named me not what I chose to be.”
“well” I asked, “do you know what the difference is between Islam and following Jesus?”
“No” he replied
The difference is that you have a choice on whether or not to follow Jesus, you cannot be born a Christian.  It is a decision of the heart, not simply something you are born into.”
“I agree” aziz replied, “most of us are simply Muslims by culture.”
Yes I said “Another difference between Islam and Christianity is the fact that in Islam you must work to be forgiven of your sins whereas in Christianity God did all the work to redeem us by sending his son Jesus.”
“Yes” he replied, “I have read the bible many times, especially during the war when I was fighting as a commander in the Kosovo liberation army (kla) my students asked me to lead them, and I did not know how, but with God’s help I was able to lead 200 of my former students against to fight for our independence. During that time I prayed a lot to Jesus and he protected us.”
Wow, I replied, “so you pray to Jesus, and believe that he is the Son of God and the savior of the world, and you are a Muslim? Did you know that the Koran does not believe this?
“I know,” aziz replied, “but I am not really I interested in the Koran. I believe that soon most kosovars will be followers of Jesus.”
“Wow” i replied, “so if you already believe that Jesus is the savior what’s stopping you from turning away from Islam and becoming a follower of Jesus?
“I do believe” said aziz
“Yes” i replied “but there is a difference between believing in Jesus and accepting Him. God is offering you the gift of salvation but you must receive it as you would a gift, by simply taking it not just believing that it exists.”
“Well what do I need to do to follow Jesus?” aziz asked
So after explaining the gospel to him, he repented of his sins, renounced Islam and decided to follow Jesus, and the Angels in heaven rejoiced.
